3-Day Rwanda Primate Trekking Escape

Upon arrival at Kigali International Airport, you will be warmly welcomed by our Opportune Safaris representative, who will assist you with the airport formalities.

You will then begin your Rwandan adventure with a short city tour. Visit the Kigali Genocide Memorial, an important site that provides insight into Rwanda’s history and journey of reconciliation.

Afterward, depart Kigali and travel north toward Musanze, the gateway to Volcanoes National Park and home to Rwanda’s famous mountain gorillas and golden monkeys. Along the way, enjoy the scenic beauty of Rwanda’s rolling hills, lush countryside, and picturesque landscapes.

Upon arrival in Musanze, check in at Five volcanoes boutique hotel and take some time to relax and enjoy the property’s facilities. The evening will be at leisure, followed by dinner and an overnight stay.

Journey time from kigali to Musanze: 2-3 hours

After an early breakfast, depart for the Volcanoes National Park headquarters in Kinigi, where you will meet your trekking guides and complete the necessary park formalities.

Prepare for an unforgettable gorilla trekking experience as you venture into the forest in search of one of Rwanda’s habituated mountain gorilla families. Once you locate the gorillas, you will have the opportunity to spend a precious hour observing them in their natural habitat and witnessing their fascinating social interactions.

After the trek, return to the hotel for lunch and some time to freshen up. In the afternoon, visit the Gorilla Guardians Village, formerly known as Iby’iwacu Cultural Village, for an engaging cultural experience. Discover Rwanda’s traditions, history, music, and fascinating stories while interacting with the local community. You may also participate in traditional dances and other cultural activities.

Return to the hotel in the evening for dinner and a well-deserved rest.

What to wear and carry: -Wear long trousers, long sleeve and hiking waterproof boats (to minimize the impact on wildlife, it is recommended to wear shades of green or brown). Carry gloves, a rain jacket, and a camera.

Pick up time: 6:30am

After breakfast, head back to Volcanoes National Park headquarters in Kinigi for your golden monkey trekking experience. Trek through the beautiful forest in search of these playful and endangered primates, with time to observe them as they move through their natural habitat.

After completing the trek, return to the hotel for a quick meal before checking out. You will then begin your journey back to Kigali, enjoying the scenic countryside along the way.

What to wear and carry: - rain gears, walkable shoes, hut, insect repellent, packed snacks, bottled mineral water and a camera (When taking pictures, flashes are not allowed on the cameras as they scare the monkeys away).

Depending on your flight schedule, you will have time for some last-minute souvenir shopping at Kigali’s local craft shops before proceeding to Kigali International Airport for your departure flight.
